Nothing says comic book like Sense & Sensibility. Marvel asked if I wanted to do a cover for their adaption, which is illustrated by the amazing Sonny Liew and I said yes without hesitating. It's good to have challenges. I draw comic books for a living so I've draw a fair amount of Super Heroes jumping around fighting, and that's fun as hell. But it's also nice to step outside the box and try something a bit different.
Sergio Toppi is an amazing artist and he uses such a kinetic style of line work and hatching that it's almost impossible not to try using it just once. I thought this would be a great piece to employ at least a technique inspired by him. I didn't want to go too far with it as it's very easy then to start feeling that the piece isn't yours any longer.
In the end, I like the way the effect turned out. I don't see myself implementing this style into my work often but it seemed fitting for a piece like this, for this book and subject matter.
Your art is great.
