Hello Edgar by skottieyoung Hello Edgar by skottieyoung
I've been spending time this past month testing out new finishing styles to use for my children's adventure graphic novel. I wanted it to have the same feeling that I've been applying in my OZ books but stand out on it's own to fit my new story. The more I played around, the more it just felt exactly like what I was doing on Oz. So I decided to put the brush down for a bit and see if switching up tools would help me find a new path.

After playing around with pens and treating the art a bit more like a kid drawn sketch I felt that I was getting somewhere. Instead of trying to bring the drawings into a full 3d cartoon type of finish, I tried to keep it a bit 2d and story book in nature.

I haven't given much information on my graphic novel and I don't plan to until it's done but I couldn't resist sharing this little test panel. Hopefully this sparks a little something in the kid in you.

I love this style! for me, the 2D type is better for a children's book :)

It makes my inner kid want to scream and hide under bed or something... so, mission completed because it's supposed to be scary, I believe? :D
